Robert L. Meiring, 80, Jasper

bob-meiringRobert L. Meiring, 80, of Jasper, died Thursday (October 27) at the Timbers of Jasper. He was born in St. Meinrad April 2, 1936, to Robert A. Sr. and Lucille (Hedinger) Meiring. He married Nancy Sermersheim June 20, 1959, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. She died December 23, 2009.

Robert was a cabinetmaker. He also worked as a locksmith and for the photo lab at Walmart. He was a U.S. Army Signal Core veteran and served in Germany from 1956 to 1958. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, a lifelong member of the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and a lifelong associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a member of the Dubois County Museum, the Dubois County Genealogical Society, the Jasper and Ireland Historical Societies, the Ireland Sportsman’s Club, and Emergency Management of Dubois County Amateur Radio. For a number of years he was a member of the Kountry Kats band. He enjoyed playing music at the Timbers, genealogy, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by one daughter, Chris Hentrup and husband Paul, Jasper; two sons, Dan Meiring and wife Cathy, Newburgh, and Steve Meiring and wife Vicki, Jasper; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Durcholz and husband Edward, Ireland.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one son, Dean Meiring.

Friends may call from noon-6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at Precious Blood Church. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday at Precious Blood Church with burial following in Shiloh Cemetery. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military graveside rights.
