Fire At Dubois Factory Contained Quickly By Employees

Dubois (NNDC) – A fire at the Indiana Furniture Industries factory in Dubois Thursday morning was isolated quickly thanks to prompt action by both plant employees and the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department.

According to DVFD, firefighters were called to the plant on East 450 North shortly after 10:30AM.

DVFD says when the first firefighters arrived on scene, what was described as “heavy smoke” was seen coming from the plant’s ventilation system.  Moments later firefighters say there was also heavy smoke inside the building.

Before DVFD arrived, plant employees had already controlled the spread of the fire by discharging two fire extinguishers into the booth where the fire started.

DVFD spokesman Zach Eichmiller says, “Firefighters then quickly extinguished the remaining flames and ventilated the booth.”

The booth is used to dry furniture after a finish is applied.

Eichmiller says it appeared that a piece of corrugated material that the furniture sits on as it travels through the booth or an actual piece of furniture fell off a cart as it went through the booth ended up against a heat lamp and ignited.

Several pieces of furniture in the booth were destroyed or damaged.

No one was injured in the incident.
