Local Man Arrested After Chase Through City Streets



Huntingburg (NNDC) – A Huntingburg man was taken into custody early Wednesday morning following a high-speed chase with police with through city streets.

Huntingburg police arrested 55-year old Robert Hoffman. Police say shortly after 3:00AM officers tried to initiate a traffic stop by pulling over Hoffman’s SUV along south Main Street (U. S. 231) and Phoenix Drive on the city’s far northside.

HPD says Hoffman was clocked going 108MPH prior to the attempted traffic stop. But HPD says Hoffman instead fled in his vehicle continuing south on Main.

HPD says with officers in pursuit, Hoffman’s SUV turned onto 22nd Street leaving the roadway momentarily and striking a stop sign.
Hoffman then turned south onto Chestnut Street. HPD says Hoffman continued on Chestnut. He attempted to turn onto 12th Street, but his vehicle left the roadway a second time bringing an end to the pursuit.

HPD says Hoffman’s blood alcohol level tested at .11%.

He’s now charged with Resisting Law Enforcement with a Motor Vehicle, Operation a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, OWI while Endangering Others, and Reckless Driving.
