Robert L. “Rob” Schnaus, 89, Ireland

rob-schnausRobert L. “Rob” Schnaus, 89, of Ireland, died Friday (October 21) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Ireland January 29, 1927, to Albert and Cecelia (Dick) Schnaus. He married Rosemary Sermersheim May 3, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.

Rob was a lifetime farmer. He was a United States Army veteran and served in London for 18 months during World War II. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Ireland, a former member of St. Mary’s parish council, the Ireland Knights of Columbus, and he Ireland Sportsman Club, American Legion Post No. 147. He was a former director of Patoka Valley Feed. He enjoyed farming, golfing, spending time with family, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana University basketball fan.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Schnaus; one daughter, Vicki Nonte and husband Bernard, Jasper; son-in-law Donald Brosmer, Ireland; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; three sisters, Martha Stenftenagel and husband Joe and Annie Burger, all of Jasper, and Betty Shelly, Franklin; and one brother, Leroy Schnaus and wife, Dorothy, Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Geralyn Brosmer, one grandson, Todd Brosmer, and five brothers, Sylvester, Virgil, Edward, Albert Jr., and Larry Schnaus.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, to the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center, or to a favorite charity. Online Condolences may be made at Funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military gravesite rites.
