Jasper (NNDC) – Stan Jochum has been presented the 2016 German American Heritage Award.

The honor was presented to the retire Jasper High School teacher Thursday evening at the Jasper Deutscher Verein’s (German Club) annual German-American Day celebration banquet held at KlubHaus 61.

At JHS, Jochum was instrumental in establishing the German-exchange program between Jasper High School and Faust Gymnasium in Staufen, Germany, in 1985.

Jochum has served on the board of directors of Sister Cities of Jasper since 1992 and was selected for the Partnership Commission in 1996 by then-mayor Bill Schmitt.

He currently works in promoting the stone carving project sponsored by Sister Cities of Jasper. The project works to restore old German gravestones in Dubois and the surrounding counties.

Jochum is a 1963 graduate of Holland High School.  He spent the majority of his career in education as a teacher and guidance counselor at JHS.

He and his wife Gayle Ann have a son Sean, and two grandchildren.
