JASPER (NNDC) – The Jasper boys tennis team won its 22nd IHSAA regional championship with a relatively easy 5-0 win over Bloomfield Wednesday evening at JHS’ Ed Yarbrough Tennis Complex.

Jasper advances to the semistate round this Saturday, also at JHS against Bloomington North (18-1). BHSN is ranked 12th in the state; Jasper (13-6) is not ranked. 7th rated Evansville Memorial plays #13 Jeffersonville in Saturday’s other semistate semifinal. Both matches begin at 12 Noon.

The only real competitive match Wednesday night was a #1 Singles, where Jasper’s Lucas Eby had to rally from a first set loss to Bloomfield’s Brennen Hughes for the win (1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5).

The Wildcats Eli Franks won at #2 Singles (6-2, 6-3 over Chris Gilmore), Dawson Hopf won at #3 Singles (6-0, 6-1 over Luke Ramsey). Both Jasper Doubles tandems of Noah Mendel and Noah Luebbehusen and Bryce Siegel and Andrew Hochgesang won in straight sets without losing a game.
