At Jasper, the Wildcats held off a strong challenge by undefeated Northeast Dubois Tuesday afternoon winning their Boys Tennis Regional semifinal match, 3-2.

It was the closest match for the Jeeps ever against Jasper in the regionals. The Wildcats ousted Northeast Dubois 3-2 in the 2002 sectional (Northeast Dubois now plays in the sectional at Loogootee).

“We’re disappointed,” said Jeeps head coach DeWayne Knies of the match. He continued, “We went into that match to win it. But, I am proud overall of how we played.”

Jasper won at #2 Singles and both Doubles matches to end Northeast Dubois’s season at 19-1 (third best win total in a season in school history).

The Jeeps won the Loogootee sectional last week to advance to the regional; their fourth in a row. Jasper won its 36th sectional last week at the Ed Yarbrough Tennis Complex at JHS where the regional is also being hosted.

Tuesday, Case Eisenhut defeated Jasper’s Lucas Eby (6-2, 6-2) to win at #1 Singles and Reece Bauer won in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) over the Wildcats’ Dawson Hopf at #3 Singles. Jasper’s Eli Franks won at #2 Singles (6-2, 6-1) over the Jeeps’ Alex Bauer.

Jasper’s Noah Mendel and Noah Luebbehusen won at #1 Doubles (6-3, 6-2) over Parker Zehr and Alex Harder and Bryce Siegel and Andrew Hochgesang won at #2 Doubles (6-1, 6-3) to close out the match for the Wildcats (12-6) who advance to tonight’s regional final at 5:30PM against Bloomfield (12-6).

The Cardinals bested Vincennes Rivet 3-2 in Tuesday’s other semifinal match.
