Donald E. Metzger, 77, Jasper

Don MetzgerDonald E. Metzger, 77, of Jasper, died Wednesday (August 31) at his home. Don was born in Kosciusko County, Indiana, October 11, 1938, to Chancey and Edna (Blocher) Metzger. He married Mae Graber April 9, 1960, in Bera Mennonite Church in Montgomery.

Don worked at Kimball for 20 years and later at Acme Metal and the Jasper Holiday Inn. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper, a charter member of Line Lodge No. 743, where he was past master, Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 601, a 50 year member of Farm Bureau, a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite, and a 49 year Shriner at Hadi Temple. He enjoyed collecting Hummel statues, Anri wood carvings, and Lladro figurines. He enjoyed watching the Shrine parades and participated in them at a younger age.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Metzger. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn JoAnn Metzger, who died in childhood.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, at Trinity United Church of Christ. The Masons will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, the Dubois County Shrine Club, or to a favorite charity. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, at the church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Pastor Jane Hillman will officiate.
