Eugene L. “Gene” Seufert, 89, Holland

Eugene SeufertEugene L. “Gene” Seufert, 89, of Holland, died Wednesday (August 17) at his home. He was born in Dubois County August 26, 1926, to Frank and Martina (Linduar) Seufert. He married June Roesner November 20, 1971, in Dale.

Gene was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Holland where he served as a deacon and the Santa Claus American Legion Post No. 242. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, June Seufert; two sons, Dion Seufert and wife Sonya and Eugene Seufrert and wife Mary, all of St. Anthony; four daughters, Avis Byers and husband Tony, Holland, Cindy Scherzinger and husband Charlie and Sharlete Ulman and husband Don, and Dixie Denton, all of Huntingburg; two step-sons, Jan Schickel and wife Peggy, Washington, and Jeff Schickel, Linton; two sisters, Esther Ballard, Oregon, and Merinda Pozzo and husband John, St. Louis; three brothers, Alvin Seufert and wife Louella, Holland, Walter Seufert, Fishers, and Norbert Seufert, Huntingburg; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Nettie Bronik.

Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Saturday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at St. James Lutheran Church. Condolences may be shared with the family online at Funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. James Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Pastor David Darling will officiate. The Santa Claus American Legion memorial detail will conduct military graveside rites.
