David C. Verkamp, 53, Schnellville

David VerkampDavid C. Verkamp, 53, of Schnellville, died Wednesday (August 3). He was born in Huntingburg May 28, 1963, to Leo and Minnie (Thewes) Verkamp. He married Francine Young September 26, 1987, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

David was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He worked in the construction industry and was a member of Laborers Union Local #561. He enjoyed working on his small farm, spending time with friends and family, and being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Francine Verkamp; four sons, Jacob Verkamp and fiancé Blakney Durcholz, Celestine, and Craig, Keith, and Travis Verkamp, all of Schnellville; three sisters, Charlene Kern and husband John, Mariah Hill, Clara Mae Mehringer and husband George, Jasper, and Dorothy Simpson and husband Rick, Tell City; and four brothers, Clarence Verkamp and wife Donna, Celestine, and Raymond Verkamp, Eugene Verkamp and wife Cindy, and Charlie Verkamp and wife Diane, all of Schnellville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Mary Verkamp.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to Divine Mercy Parish or to a favorite charity.
