Leroy C. Goeppner, 72, Jasper

LeRoy Goepner 2Leroy C.  Goeppner, 72, of Jasper, died Saturday (June 18) at his home. He was born in Ireland August 26, 1943, to Albert and Mattieline (Huber) Goeppner. He married Joan Kunz May 18, 1963, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Leroy retired from Merkley’s  Meat Packing Company where he worked for  over 35 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, cooking, and playing guitar. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, the White River Country Boys band (for many years), and Jasper Outdoor Recreation.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Goeppner; one daughter, Kathy Eisenhut and husband Gene, Jasper; three sons, William Goeppner and wife Twyla, Winslow, David J. Goeppner and wife Stacy, and twin brother Michael J. Goeppner and wife Kim, all of Huntingburg; nine grandchildren, Case, Samantha, Lindsey, Sarah, Laryn, Noah, Savanah, Mikah, and Aaron; two great-grandchildren, Sophie and Kenton; five sisters, Rosie Jellison and husband Larry, Jasper and MaDonna Freyberger and husband Leroy, all of Jasper, Marilyn Beier and husband Bernard, Wilma Stemle and husband Dave, and Martha Best and husband Thomas, all of Ireland; and three brothers, Ralph Goeppner and wife Carol, Jasper, Bernard Goeppner and wife Judy, Holland, and Cletus Goeppner and wife Rita, Ireland.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Donald J., who died in infancy, one great-grandson, Cole Schepers, and one brother, Lee Goepper.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner  North  Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lange Fuhs Cancer Center or to St. Joseph Church.
