Jasper (NNDC) – Saying she wants to bring a “new voice” to our state government, 34-year old political newcomer Andrea Hulsman will be the Democratic nominee on this fall’s ballot seeking the District 63 seat in the Indiana House of Representatives.

Andrea Hulsman was selected as the Democratic nominee for State Representative in District 63 during a recent party caucus. The District 63 seat is currently held by Republican Mike Braun of Jasper, who is seeking his second term in office.

Hulsman, who is a graduate of both Jasper High School and Vincennes University says, “I have never ran for office but I do have years of diversified leadership experience in serving my community. I feel my leadership experience blended with the drive I have to bring balance to the state level makes me a good choice to represent the 63rd District.

She goes on to say, “our current governor and the majority of our legislators seem more interested in playing political games than serving Hoosier families. I think we deserve better. We need more everyday, common people (not politicians) running for office.”

The mother of three is a part-time teacher with the Greater Jasper Consolidated School Corporation. She says, “our public schools are the heart of our communities. Good schools bring new jobs, people and growth to our towns. Fair funding for our schools and support for our teachers in the classrooms needs to be a priority. Along with a firm infrastructure and bringing back Hoosier Hospitality. There are so many issues that need to be addressed in this state.

Hulsman, who was born and raised in Dubois County, is active with the Youth program at Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper; she was the Church’s Youth Director up until this month.

Her resume includes a long list of community involvement both past and present, including, the 2015-2016 Indiana Emerging Leaders Project, Elected Secretary of Dubois County Democrats, Girl Scout Leader, Vice President/Secretary of Jasper Youth Soccer Board, Hometown Competitiveness Youth Pillar Member, Jasper Youth Soccer Coach, Jasper Youth Softball Coach, and Indiana South Futbol Coach.

“I look forward to getting out and talking with the voters to learn more about what issues are affecting the people in this district, says Hulsman. “And ultimately getting the opportunity to serve as State Representative.”
