Bombers Bounce Back From First Loss Of Season (PHOTO GALLERIES)

Huntingburg (NNDC) – The Dubois County Bombers rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 6-2 victory over the visiting Owensboro Oilers last night. 773 Dubois County faithful made the trek to to historic League Stadium to witness the Bombers improve their record to 5-1.

Dubois County took an early lead when USI’s Buddy Johnson walked to lead off the home first inning. A wild pitch and an error moved him around the bases on a run scored without benefit of a base hit.

Owensboro knotted the game in the fourth inning when Tanner Kehrer walked and was driven in by the Oilers Nick Lugo.

Dubois County immediately regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. Mark Geisler singled with one out. He eventually came around to score on some heads-up baserunning, advancing on a wild pitch, a stolen base, and an error.

The Bombers added two more in the fifth. Johnson again led off the inning with a walk. Connor Echols followed with a double. Zach Gray’s RBI single and Macy Holdsworth’s sacrifice fly put the home team up 4-1.

Owensboro cut the margin to two with an unearned run in the eighth inning, but Dubois County plated a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by an RBI single off the bat of Logan Brown.

USI’s Austin Krizan made his first start for the Bombers. He went five innings, holding Owensboro to a single run on two hits. A distinct ground ball pitcher, 12 of Krizan’s 15 outs were recorded via ground balls.

Matt Munden, Brian Wickman and Kevin Forde held the Oilers in check througthe final four frames, allowing one unearned run.

Krizan earned the win to go 1-0. Oilers starter Matt Walczak takes the loss, his first decision of the season.

Gray and Lugo led their respective teams with two hits apiece.

The Bombers victory solidifies their hold on second-place. They remain one game behind the league-leading and undefeated Hopkinsville Hoppers. The Hoppers and Bombers will meet for the first time this season tonight at League Stadium. First pitch is at 7 PM.
