square 2JASPER (Local Sources) – Initial estimates for Jasper’s proposed Downtown Redevelopment Project is range from $4.3 to $5.9 million dollars according to Rundell Ernstberger Associates, the Indianapolis-based design firm hired by the City of Jasper for the project.

More than 50 people attended a public open house meeting Tuesday, May 24th at Jasper City Hall.

City officials say the meeting was held so the general public could learn more about the project.  You can view the entire project presentation from the May 24th meeting by CLICKING HERE.

The city is wanting to use several funding sources to pay for the project.   City officials say they plan to use $1 million dollars the city is getting in a local option income tax surplus from the state.   City officials have also asked the Dubois County Council for $500,000 the county is getting from the surplus.  City officials have also asked the county to apply for a matching grant of $500,000.

Additional money for the project could also come from the recently announced Jasper “LEADs” campaign.  LEAD stands for Library, Enrichment, Arts and Downtown.  The $8 million dollar campaign has already received a major pledge from Jasper residents Jim and Pat Thyen; Jim is the recently retired CEO of Kimball International.
