Margaret E. Beckman, 84, Jasper

Untitled-1Margaret E. Beckman, 84, of Jasper, died Monday (June 6) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Jasper July 11, 1931, to Cyril and Margaret (Seacrest) Wilson. She married James F. Beckman January 5, 1957, in Attica. He died October 14, 1999.

Margaret was a 1949 graduate of Jasper High School, a 1951 graduate of Stephen’s College in Columbia, Missouri, and a 1953 graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in journalism. While at Colorado State she was a member of the Phi Delta sorority. After college she worked for the Ohio Oil Company in Terre Haute. She moved to Attica and worked in a friend’s dress shop, the Jean Miller Dress Shop. She also worked in the Fountain County assessor’s office. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Tri Kappa in Attica, and was active in the Attica Republican Party many years. She enjoyed playing poker and bridge and belonged to a couples poker club with her husband and a ladies bridge club. She loved animals and donated food to the Attica Animal Shelter and the Dubois County Humane Society. She loved doing crossword puzzles, reading with her social circle in Attica, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by one sister, Carma Habig and husband John, Jasper; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Weidenbenner, Jasper, and Anne Beckman, Indianapolis; and nieces and newphews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Tom and Mike Beckman, and one niece, Debbie Beckman Chaney.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the Dubois County Humane Society, or to a favorite charity. Condolences may be made at www.becherkluesner.com. Funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with entombment following in the Fairview Cemetery mausoleum. Rev. Jim Neely will officiate.
