Esther Reckelhoff, 86, Jasper

Esther ReckelhoffEsther F. Reckelhoff, 86, of Jasper, died Tuesday (May 31) at University of Louisville Medical Center in Louisville. She was born in Ferdinand October 2, 1929, to Leo and Theresia (Stetter) Gehlhausen.  She married Frank Reckelhoff July 1, 1950, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.

Esther worked at K-Mart in Jasper for 23 years. She was also a homemaker and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and its Ladies Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, walking, gardening, watching television, cooking (especially making pies), quilting, canning, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Reckelhoff; two daughters, Janet Welp and husband Stan and Diann Verkamp and husband Lenny, all of Schnellville; two sons, David Reckelhoff and wife, Susan, St. Anthony, and Gerald Reckelhoff and companion Betty, St. Louis, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one step great-granddaughter; three sisters, Helen Englert, Ferdinand, Rose Marie Reckelhoff and husband, Roman, Cincinnati, and Dorothy Fehribach, Jasper; and one brother, Eugene Gehlhausen and wife, Virlee, Huntingburg,

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Kathleeen Reckelhoff, one step-grandson, Martin Lampe, Jr., and two brothers, Irvin and Leo F. “Junie” Gehlhausen.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Church. The Ladies Sodality will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to a favorite charity.
