Elizabeth Clara “Bettye” Meyer, 88, Huntingburg

E. Bettye MeyerElizabeth Clara “Bettye” Meyer, 88, of Huntingburg, died Sunday (May 29) at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born in Boone Township November 7, 1927, to Otto L. Schwenk and Olivia E. (Schmitt) Schwenk. She married Renus F. Meyer June 22, 1949, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dale. He died November 26, 1994.

Bettye worked for General Electric for 24 years and for Styline. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, a past regent of Daughters of Isabella Circle No. 230 in Huntingburg, the St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality, and the Santa Claus Home Economic Club. She was a lifetime member of the Santa Claus Legion Auxiliary and an 8th district past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She and her husband were the first commander and president team of the 8th district from the Santa Claus Unit No. 242. She held many offices and chairman positions in the district and unit. She was chairman of the Indiana Veterans Home for 31 years. In 1960 she received the first award from the Indiana Department of Legislature for excellence. She was a charter member of the Lincoln Hills Forty & Eight Voiture No. 868, in which she held many offices.

She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Kaetzel and husband Jon, Dale; one son, Eric Meyer, Wantage, New Jerseye; three grandsons, Jeff Kaetzel and wife Marcia, Dale, Jeremy Kaetzel and wife Amy, Bruceville, and Eric Ryan Meyer, Evansville; one granddaughter, Brandy Welp and husband James, Ferdinand; ten great-grandchildren, Kyle, Makinze, Kasey and Kent Kaetzel, all of Dale, Chris, R.J., and Leslie Kaetzel, all of Bruceville; and Carter, Mason, and Tanner Welp, all of Ferdinand; and one sister, Sharon Apple, Jasper.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert, her stepmother, Marie (Stemaly) Schwenk, and one stepsister, Kathleen.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. (EDT) Wednesday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary prayer vigil will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
