Gerald “Jerry” Newman, 53, Jasper

Jerry NewmanGerald “Jerry” Newman, 53, of Jasper, died Wednesday (May 18) in Bakersfield, California. He was born May 5, 1963, to Kathryn (Whitehead) Greer. He married Diana Loeffler-Vonderheide June 27, 2003.

Jerry was an electrician and a member of the Local I.B.E.W. 648 since 1985. He traveled extensively throughout his career. In 2004 he spent a year working in Iraq supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a member of Redemption Christian Church of Jasper and enjoyed fishing, cooking, and riding his motorcycle, and had a love for animals.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Newman; one son, Sgt. Brandon Stuhlmueller, Virginia; two step daughters, Vanessa Balsmeyer and husband Scott, Holland, and Heather Siddons, Huntingburg; his mother, Kathryn Greer, Fairfield, Ohio; seven step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one sister, Debra Miller and husband Roy, Ross, Ohio; one niece, Amber Langevin, Ross, Ohio; and one nephew, Stf. Sgt. Chris Langevin, deployed overseas.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Richard D. Greer.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to Redemption Christian Church of Jasper, the Dubois County Humane Society, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at Redemption Christian Church of Jasper with burial following in Enlow Cemetery in Jasper. Rev. Darrel Land will officiate.
