Ralph J. Schepers, 77, Long Beach

Ralph SchepersRalph J. Schepers, 77, of Long Beach, California, died Thursday (May 19), in Long Beach. He was born in Dubois April 3, 1939. to Henry and Ardella (Theising) Schepers.

Ralph worked as a general contractor in Long Beach for over 30 years. He also worked as a realtor in California. He previously operated the Twin Front Shell station in Jasper and the Shell station in Dubois. He attended the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, receiving his culinary certificate. He worked part time for Holiday World in the summer of 2015. He was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Long Beach and served in the Indiana Army National Guard. He enjoyed oil painting, wood carving of birds, fishing, mushroom hunting, traveling, the outdoors, and spending time at the beach.

He is survived by four daughters, Diane Denton and husband Will, St. Anthony, Brenda DeLapaz and husband Ferdinand, Long Beach, California, Gail Fischer and husband Rodney, Santa Claus, and Sherry Smith and husband Lane, Lake Mills, Wisconsin; two sons, Darryl and Michael Schepers, both of Huntingburg; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Monica Jahn and husband Jerry, Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Joshua Laymon, and three brothers, Herbert (Herb), Jerome, and Harold Schepers.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Dubois.
