Anna Mae Betz, 96, Schnellville

Anna BetzAnna Mae Betz, 96, of Schnellville, died Saturday (May 21) at the Timbers of Jasper. She was born in Schnellville June 5, 1919, to Henry and Frances (Loechte) Verkamp. She married Jerome H. Betz June 9, 1942, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville. He died December 17, 1997.

Anna Mae was a homemaker and a cook for Betz’s Butcher Shop for many years. She was a member of St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine and its St. Anne’s Society. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, and playing cards.

She is survived by two daughters, Doretha Boeglin and husband Erwin, Ferdinand, and Lou Alice Dilger and husband Sam, Mariah Hill; four sons, Ernest Betz and wife Donna Kay, Marvin Betz and wife Phyllis, Leroy Betz and wife Jenny, and Ralph Betz, all of Celestine; 18 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Alberta Betz, and two brothers, Leo and Oscar Verkamp.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Celestine St. Anne’s Society will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Celestine Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Celestine Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
