Stanley F. “Butter” Mehling, 76, St. Meinrad

MehlingStanley F. “Butter” Mehling, 76, of Saint Meinrad, died Thursday (May 19) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Saint Meinrad July 1, 1939, to Hubert and Alice (Maffenbeier) Mehling. He married Beverly Ann Lechner September 29, 1978, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper. She died December 13, 2012.

Butter retired from Best Chairs in Ferdinand. He was a member of St. Meinrad Parish and a member of St. Meinrad Knights of Columbus Council 5599. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wine making, gardening, woodworking, softball, and horse shoes.

He is survived by five sons, Quinn and Zack Mehling, both of St. Meinrad, Travis Mehling, Evansville, Justin Mehling, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Joel Mehling, Tell City; three brothers, Norman Mehling and wife Judith, Orange, Virginia, Jim Mehling, St. Meinrad, and Terry Auffart and wife Donna, St/ Meinrad; three sisters, Ann Hunt, Gainesville, Georgia, Margie Steckler and husband Mike, Huntingburg, and Ruth Fritz and husband Ray Jr., Mariah Hill; and two grandchildren, Napoleon and Olivia Mehling.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard Joseph Mehling.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Meinrad Church. Onine condolences may be made at Funeral services 10 a.m. Tuesday (CDT) at Saint Meinrad Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
