Phyllis A. Winkler, 69, Ferdinand

WinklerPhyllis A. Winkler, 69, of Ferdinand, died Friday (May 20) at her home. She was born in Ferdinand October 6, 1946, to Edwin and Dorothy Hoge. She married James Winkler October 14, 1967, at St. Ferdinand Church.

Phyllis was a member of St. Ferdinand Church where she served on the Welcome Committee. She belonged to the Daughters of Isabella and served as the group’s treasurer. She loved gardening and baking and won several local baking contests over the years. She and her husband were active in Ferdinand Little League, serving as coaches and concession stand managers. She enjoyed babysitting for many years and Holiday World, where she was a longtime season pass holder. She loved going for walks and riding her bike and anything in the community that her kids and grandkids were part of.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Winkler; three sons, Alan Winkler and wife Debbie, and Philip Winkler and wife Kerri, all of Ferdinand, and Brian Winkler and wife LeAnn, Lacey, Washington; one daughter, Deb Butler and husband Joe, LaGrange, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Garret, Grant, Katie, Nolan, Gavin and Mason Winkler, all of Ferdinand, and Shannon, Jason, and Grace Butler, all of LaGrange, Illinois; and one brother, Bill Hoge and wife Mary Ann, The Villages, Florida.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Monday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Henry Catholic Church with burial following in the St. Ferdinand Church Cemetery.
