zehrLoval Richard Zehr, 68, of Birdseye, died Tuesday (May 10) at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Birdseye November 5, 1947, to Theodore and Anna Lois (Hollen) Zehr. He married Joyce Fern Lagenour February 15, 1974, in Jasper.

Loval served in the U.S. Army, a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong construction worker. He was employed by Jasper Lumber Company. He was also employed by Blitz Builders as a yard coordinator before his retirement.He was affectionately known by many as “Moose”. He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, his dog Zeus, craft projects, and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce F. Zehr; four sons, Kevin Kelley and wife Elaine, Birdseye, Mark Kelley and wife Jodi, Ferdinand, and twins William “Cody” Zehr and Martin “Kit” Zehr, both of Birdseye; one brother, Elvis Zehr and wife Alice, St. Meinrad; six sisters, Beulah Curl, Madison, Mildred Giesler, and Janice Wrigtht, both of Jasper, Edna Bolden and husband Harold, Birdseye, Norma Porter, Santa Claus, and Connie Wooldridge and husband Larry, Meriden, Connecticut; 13 grandchildren, Logan, James, Viva Nicole, Christy, and Brandon Kelley, Amanda, Jessica, Rebecca “Becky,” and John Davis II, Shawntia “Tia” amd Emerald “Emmi” Zehr, and Kayli and Tyler “T.J.” Gramelspacher; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Clyston Zehr, and two sisters, June Norman and infant Carol Jean Zehr.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Saturday and from noon-1 p.m. (EDT) Sunday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Condolences may be shared online at www.nassandson.com. Funeral services at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Rev. Albert Madden will officiate. Cremation will take place after the services followed by interment in Mentor Cemetery at a later date. Military graveside rites will be conducted by St. Anthony American Legion Post No. 493.
