Allen E. Knies, 74, Jasper

Alan KniesAllen E. Knies, 74, of Jasper, died Wednesday (May 11) at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Celestine March 5, 1942, to Leo T. and Irene (Haas) Knies. He married Virginia Buechlein February 22, 1962, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

Allen retired from Leitz Tooling Company in Jasper, where he worked for over 40 years. He was a member of Holy Family Church, the Holy Name Society, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, Schnellville Conservation Club, Lake Helmerich Village Association, the Sebring Garden Association, and the Camping Hoosiers Club. He was a 40 year survivor from a transplant kidney, donated by his brother, Kenneth Knies. He enjoyed his winter home in Florida, fishing, traveling, spending time outdoors, and being with family.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; one son, Brian Knies and wife Joan, Jasper; two daughters, Renee Fuhrman and husband Bob, Jr., Jasper and Emily Stuckey and husband Josh, Fishers; six grandchildren, Courtney Knies, AdamT. Knies and fiancé Jessica Lawson, Bailey S. Fuhrman, and Avery, Corbin R., and Nolan A. Stuckey; two sisters, Janice Mehringer and husband Kenneth, Jasper, and Lori Baumeyer and husband Dean, Evansville; sister-in-law Mary Lee Knies, Ferdinand; and five brothers, Ronald Knies, Celestine, Herman Knies and wife Nancy and Keith Knies and wife Debbie, all of Jasper, John Knies and wife Rosie, Arlington, Texas, and Jack Knies and wife Jane, Goshen.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Knies.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church, Mentors for Youth, Young Life, or a favorite charity.
