Unlicensed Driver Tries To Flee Police On Foot After Traffic Stop

Jasper (NNDC) – An Indianapolis man was arrested Thursday after he tried to flee police officers during a traffic stop.

Jasper police says a JPD officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on Mill Street near 25th Street shortly before 7:00AM.

The officer soon learned that 38-year old Luis Rocha-Ruiz was driving his vehicle without ever having received a license.

 Then when the officer asked Luis to step out of the vehicle and when the officer attempted to handcuff Luis in attempt to take him into custody, Luis pushed the officer back and then fled on foot southbound on Mill Street.

JPD says Luis continued running into the backyards of several residences.

He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit on the property of Buffalo Trace Golf Course. L

JPD says Luis was tased by an officer before being taken into custody. Memorial EMS then assisted officers at the scene. Luis was

transported to Memorial Hospital for treatment and then once released was transported to the Dubois County Security Center.

He is charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Having Never Been Licensed (Class C misdemeanor) and Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A misdemeanor).
