Gas Leak Forces Homes To Be Evacuated North Of Dubois

areaDubois (NNDC) – About 20 homes north of Dubois were evacuated for about an hour to stopped a leak from a natural gas well.

Dubois Volunteer Fire Department Chief Steve Kalb says a crew was working on a gas well near Indiana 545 and East 600 North between the Town of Dubois and the Dubois Crossroads.

DVFD crews were called to the area of the well at about 2:15PM Wednesday.

After discovering the location of the leak, Kalb says DVFD firefighters began going door to door of nearby homes and asking those at home to evacuate the area as a precaution.

Kalb says a crew from Trey Exploration, Inc. out of Newburgh was able to get a cap on the leaking well after about an hour.

Those evacuated were able to return to their homes at about 3:25PM.
