Drug Sweep Nets Seven Arrests; More Being Sought

Jasper (NNDC) – Another “sweep” of suspected local drug dealers has resulted in seven arrests with more suspects being sought.

More information on the details of the “sweep” operation will be released later by the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Offfice

The Dubois County Sheriff’s office says seven arrests were made Monday of suspected local drug dealers as part of the “sweep” and more arrests are expected.

Take into custody on Monday were…

John J. Bickerest, 30, Jasper, charged with two Level 5 felony counts of dealing in narcotic drugs.

Cole M. Denton, 28, Huntingburg, charged with a Level 3 felony count of dealing cocaine or narcotic drug.

Yaun M. Helms, 40, Ireland, charged with a Level 4 felony count of dealing cocaine or narcotic drug and a Level 5 felony count of dealing a Schedule IV controlled substance.

Andrew J. Long Jr., 25, Huntingburg, charged with a Level 2 felony count of dealing cocaine or a narcotic drug and a Level 4 felony count of dealing methamphetamine (with enhancing circumstance).

Jeremy J. Lorey, 42, Jasper, charged with two Level 5 felony counts of dealing methamphetamine.

Justin R. MacDonald, 34, Ferdinand, charged with a Level 5 felony count of dealing cocaine or narcotic drug.

Maurice R. Zapata, 22, Jasper, charged with a Level 4 felony count of dealing methamphetamine.

All are currently being held at the Dubois County Security Center in Jasper.

More information is expected from the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday.

This is the third major police roundup of local suspected drug dealers since the summer of 2014.

In June of 2014, the “Operation Big Brother” sweep netted 16 arrests.

A year later, “Operation Double Trouble” took 18 suspected drug dealers off local streets.

A spokesman with the sheriff’s department says several arrest warrants as part of this “sweep” remain outstanding including people who live outside Dubois County.
