Jasper (NNDC) – A top state Republican official has told NewsNow Dubois County and our media partner WEHT/WTVW that presidential candidate Ted Cruz will not be visiting Jasper tomorrow as first planned.

Earlier, a local GOP official close to the Cruz campaign said a venue was being sought for Cruz’s planned visit.  Now, that is not the case.

Cruz campaign officials say the Texas senator is wanting to come to Dubois County, but NNDC has learned that the trip is not possible as the Huntingburg airport is not able to accommodate the candidate’s jet.

Dubois County Republican Chairman Don Hayes says national campaigns are constantly making changes to itineraries and schedules so he’s not surprised at what has transpired over the last couple of hours.  Hayes was looking forward to having Cruz make a visit locally.  Cruz would have been the first active presidential candidate to visit Jasper and Dubois County since Robert Kennedy was here in April of 1968.

Hayes says it would not surprise him if the Cruz campaign can still make a Jasper visit possible between now and next Tuesday’s primary election.  He said, “These campaigns are constantly on the move so. who knows?”
