Alberta M. Harris, 98, Huntingburg

Alberta HarrisAlberta M. Harris, 98, died Monday (April 18) in Huntingburg. She was born in Jasper May 24, 1917, to Clem and Carrie (Seng) Fischer. She married Glenn F. Harris September 16, 1933, in Petersburg. He died October 29, 1984.

Alberta worked for Swift’s, Kesling’s Drug Store (where she was known as “Grannie Bert”), and at several other local businesses. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the V.F.W. Post No. 2366 Auxiliary, and was a 50 year member of the Women of the Moose Chapter No. 955. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, and being with friends and family.

She is survived by one son, Jim Harris and wife Dolly, Huntingburg; two daughters, Shirley Satkamp, Ireland and Carolyn Klee and husband Russ, Jasper; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Steve and Jack Harris, one daughter, Glenda Turpin, two brothers, Andrew and Edward Fischer, and two sisters, Marie Schneider and Clara Striegel.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Vigil services at 5:30 p.m. Thursday conducted by the Women of the Moose Chapter #955 followed by the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Condolences may be shared online at Funeral services at 10 a.m. (EDT) Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery.
