Former Raider Thompson Sets Butler High Jump Record (with VIDEO)

MUNCIE (NNDC) – Butler University sophomore high jumper Dakota “Cody” Thompson set a new school record in his event at the Ball State Challenge held this past Saturday in Muncie.

Below is video of Cody’s record-setting jump at Ball State taken by one of his coaches…

Thompson, a 2014 Southridge High School graduate, recorded a leap of 2.10 meters (6’10 3/4″) in the men’s high jump Saturday, breaking the previous school mark of 2.08 meters. He was the highest-positioned individual Butler finisher at the meet.  The jump was four inches better than his previous personal best which he jumped at the Big East Indoor Championships in February.

Thompson is having an outstanding 2016 Season; this is sophomore year at Butler.

He won the Big East Conference Indoor meet with a then personal best jump of 2.0 meters (6′ 6 3/4″). The meet was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in New York City (Staten Island) on February 26 aand 27 (see photo of Cody atop the podium from Big East Conference).

Thompson and the Butler track and field team will be back in action this coming weekend (April 23rd) at the Illinois Twilight Meet hosted by the University of Illinois in Champaign.
