Jasper (NNDC) – A Ferdinand man has been sentenced for setting fire to his apartment last summer.

As part of a plea deal, 36-year old David Wilmes has been sentenced to five years in prison along with having to pay $2500 in restitution for damages at his apartment.

Ferdinand firefighters were called to Wilmes’ apartment in a complex owned by Brad Brosmer of Huntingburg in the 600 block of West 9th Street just before 1:00 oclock the morning of June 29, 2015.

Wilmes is being given credit for time served at the Dubois County Security Center since his arrest.

Wilmes was the one who called firefighters to the scene. He called from a relative’s home about a block away. The fire was contained to his apartment. Other occupants of the apartment complex were able to return home later that morning.
