Rangers Win Season Opener; Jasper & Forest Park Get Softball Wins (SCOREBOARD)

At Ferdinand, the Rangers win their 2016 season opener with home win over the visiting Wolfpack.

Ben Wendholt and Jaxon Cronin each had a double for Forest Park.   Cronin got the win the mound for the Rangers; Wendholt the save.



Jasper 8  Owensboro Apollo 2

At Owensboro, the Lady Wildcats scored four runs in the seventh to cap an 8-2 Wednesday evening road win over Owensboro Apollo. The Wildcats scored 4 in the seventh on a two-run double by Paige Werner, a pinch hit groundout by Molly Mehringer, and an RBI single by Olivia Burger.   Werner racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Jasper Wildcats.

Olivia Knies picked up her second win of the young season for the Wildcats. Knies pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs, four hits and three walks while striking out three.

Payton Blades took the loss for Apollo, allowing seven runs in six innings with two walks and six strike outs.

Jasper never trailed after scoring two runs in the first on an RBI double by Lindsay Mehringer and a groundout RBI by Knies.

Forest Park 7  Clarksville Providence 1

At Bretzville, the Lady Rangers even their record at 1-1 for the new season with the win over visiting Providence.   Forest Park scored all their runs in the first three innings (four in the 2nd; three in the 3rd).

Taylor Bayer had eight strikeouts enroute to the complete game victory for Forest Park.  Bayer was also 2 for 2 at the plate and she scored two runs.

Samantha Jarboe was also 2 for 2 for the Lady Rangers with a double, a single and an RBI.  Sara Helming and Vanessa Lange each had an RBI in the win.
