Don Barkley, 77, Huntingburg

dON BARKLEYDon Barkley, 77, of Huntingburg, died Monday (March 28) at his home. He was born in Bloomington October 20, 1938, to James Alfred and Maude (Bradley) Barkley. He married Mary Ann Young November 8, 1958, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

Don was a 1956 graduate of French Lick High School. He retired from Jasper Rubber Company and then worked for Casey’s General Store in Huntingburg and the Jasper Walmart where was employed as a store greeter. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Jasper, and enjoyed restoring cars, gardening, and watching NASCAR and golf on television.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Barkley; seven daughters, Dee Hochgesang and husband Dan and Becky Smith and husband Rev. Dan Smith, all of Huntingburg, Judy Fawks and husband Mike, Rose Barkley, and Sandra Blessinger, all of Jasper, Candace Bryant, Valparaiso, and Daphne Barkley, Evansville; six sons, Ed Barkley and wife Penny, Holland, Paul Barkley and wife Carma, James Barkley and wife Carrie, Donny Barkley and wife Patty, and Al Barkley and wife Tammy, all of Huntingburg, and Andy Barkley and wife Raquel, Jasper; one brother, Clarence “Junior” Barkley, French Lick; 29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A vigil prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be shared online at Funeral services at 10 a.m. (EDT) Thursday at St. Joseph’s Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Father Raymond Brenner will officiate.
