Geraldine “Gerri” Schnaus, 59, Loogootee

Gerri SchnausGeraldine “Gerri” Schnaus, 59, of Loogootee, died Sunday (March 20) at her home. She was born in Jasper March 18, 1957, to George and Marian (Prechtel) Eckerle. She married Stephen Schnaus April 16, 1977, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Gerri retired from teaching at Morganfield, Kentucky, where she taught business. She was a 1975 graduate of Jasper High School and a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Loogootee. She was active in the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Food Pantry in the Loogootee area and was active and supportive of the Amish community.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Schnaus; two sons, Cale Schnaus and wife Rachael, Evansville, and Ared Schnaus and wife Jennifer, Fort Branch; four grandchildren, Paige, Asher, Cora, and Hayden; her father George Eckerle and companion Norberta Bullock, Jasper; and three sisters, Jane Hochgesang and husband Eugene, Jasper, and Sharon Schnell and husband Fred and Karen Hauser and husband Rick, all of Schnellville.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marian Eckerle.

Friends may call from 8-10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Church in Loogootee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Easter Seal Society. Condolences may be made at A memorial mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
