Beaver Lake (NNDC) – Fire crews from Dubois, Schnellville and Birdseye were called out to field fires Monday afternoon.

Dubois crews responded to a field fire just off the north shore of Beaver Lake shortly after 12:00N.  Stronger than normal winds may have caused embers from a trash fire near a lakeside cabin along Beaver Lake Road spead into a nearby wooded area.

The fire was brought under control quickly after firefighters area and was contained to about an area a little more than an acre in size.  No structures were damaged and none of the tall trees in the area about a mile south of the Jasper-Dubois Road caught fire.   Crews were on the scene for about an hour.

About two hours later, fire crews from both Schnellville and Birdseye were called to a field fire between Schnell and Mentor roads south of Indiana 64.

High winds also hampered crews at the scene who were on the scene for more than two hours.
