Four Hurt In Sunday Accident North Of Ferdinand

Ferdinand (NNDC) – The use of seat belts is being credited with lessening the extent of the injuries of all passengers in a two-vehicle accident Sunday.

Four people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon along Indiana 162 north of Ferdinand Sunday afternoon

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 46-year old Amy Rickelman was driving north on 162 when her SUV was rear-ended by a pickup truck shortly after 3PM.

DCSD says Rickelman had slowed for southbound traffic to clear so she could turn west onto East 815 South when the accident occurred.

The driver of the pickup truck was 41-year old T. Clay Smith of Mitchell.  Smith told deputies he was distracted and did not notice Rickelman’s stopped vehicle in time to avoid the collision.

Two of three juvenile passengers in Smith’s truck were injured.  14-year-old Levi Smith of Mitchell suffered injuries to his face and head, and another 14-year-old, Matthew Goodman, also of Mitchell, complained of neck and shoulder pain.

DCSD says Rickelman suffered head, neck and hand injuries.  A passenger in her vehicle, 20-year old Max Rickelman, also of Ferdinand, suffered a cut to the head.

All those injured were transported to Memorial Hospital.
