Jasper Man Charged with Conversion; Man Jailed For OWI; Charges Filed In Two Two-Vehicle Accidents BLOTTER)

SHOPLIFTING RESULTS IN CONVERSION CHARGES

JASPER (NNDC) – Jasper City :Police were called to Trader Bakers in Jasper Wednesday afternoon where a 35-year-old Jasper woman was suspected of shoplifting several items. While police were talking with Leslie Elliot they spotted a large bowl in her pursue. Further investigation determined that Elliot took several jewelry items and other miscellaneous items that were valued at $194.92. She was charged with conversion and lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.

JASPER MAN CHARGED WITH OWI

JASPER (NNDC) – After receiving a complaint from a concerned citizen who had spotted a vehicle swerving and crossing the center line several times, Jasper City Police located the vehicle in the parking lot of a Jasper business on 3rd Avenue. The driver, Jonathan D.Eckstein, 54, was taken to Memorial Hospital for a blood draw. He tested .15 and also tested positive for THC. Eckstein was charged with Operating While Intoxicated (OWI), a class C misdemeanor, was taken into custody and lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.

NO ONE INJURED IN TWO-CAR ACCIDENT, CHARGES FILED

 JASPER (NNDC) – No one was injured in a two-car accident Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and McArthur Street in Jasper. City police report both vehicles were eastbound on 231. The vehicle driven by Frederick Block, 50, of Jasper. He told police he was stopped at a red light in front of a line of traffic The driver of the second vehicle, Joella A. Oskins, 56, stated that her cellphone was ringing and she was reaching for it. She said she thought the light was red for her lane, but was not sure. She did not stop and struck the rear end of the front vehicle. She was charged with following too closely.

CHARGES FILED IN TWO-VEHICLE MISHAP

JASPER (NNDC) – A two-car accident at Kluemper Road and West Sixth Street in Jasper early this morning resulted in charges filed against a Jasper man. Police say a vehicle driven by Michael Steurer, 53, of Jasper, was northbound on Kleumper Road and stopped at the intersection of West Sixth Street. A vehicle driven by Kenneth L. Sendelweck, 62, of Jasper, was westbound on Sixth Street and attempted to turn south onto Kluemper. Sendelweck told police he was paying attention to oncoming traffic and did not see Steurer’s vehicle at the intersection. He turned too sharply and struck the left front of the vehicle. Sendelweck was cited for driving left of center. No one was injured.
