Fredie Lee Gehl, 83, Jasper

Freddie GehlFredie Lee Gehl, 83, of Jasper, died Monday (February 29) at Cathedral Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in St. Anthony December 29, 1932, to Herbert and Rose (Bolte) Gehl. He married Yvonne Ann Wollberg December 7, 1966. She died September 8, 1984. He then married Dorothy Trevathan December 29, 1990. She also preceded him in death.

Fredie was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a baker during the Vietnam Conflict. He owned a restaurant in Milan, Tennessee, and worked as a night watchman at a factory for several years. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 147, and enjoyed reading, gardening, and taking walks.

He is survived by one daughter, Dawn Gehl, Tennessee; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Naomi Egler and husband Daniel, and Mary Lou Schmitt, all of Jasper; and Ruth Sickbert and husband, Randy, Ferdinand; four brothers, Richard Gehl and wife Tammy, Clarksville, Tennessee, Donald Gehl and wife Margaret, Warrenton, Virginia, Joseph E. Gehl, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and David Gehl and wife Becky, Evansville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives he was preceded in death by one son, Shawn Gehl, and two sisters, Delores Snyder and Rosalie Johnson.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, at Cathedral Health Care Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Dubois County Survivors of Suicide or to Cathedral Health Care Center. Online condolences may be made at Funeral services at noon Wednesday Cathedral Health Care Chapel with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. Fr. Angelo Quadrini will officiate. American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rights.
