Son; Then Mom Arrested For DWI After Separate Accidents Near Bretzville Junction

Bretzville (NNCD) – As deputies were investigating an early morning accident near the Bretzville Junction, the mother of the driver involved then crashed her car into a DCSD patrol car; both were arrested.

DCSD says at about 3:50AM Saturday, deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident along Indiana 64 just east of the intersection with Indiana 162.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found the car sitting in the middle of the highway with no one in or near it. Moments a man walked up to the scene.

The man was later identified as 20-year old James D’Angelo of St. Anthony, and determined he was driving the car which struck guardrail before it was found back on the highway. DCSD says deputies suspected D’Angelo of driving while intoxicated. DCSD says deputies had to obtain a search warrant to get a blood sample. His blood alcohol content later tested .25%.

DCSD says while deputies were investigating the first accident, a DCSD patrol car was struck by a third car driven by 47-year old Ann Marie D’Angelo, James’ mother.

She was detained after deputies say they noticed a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from her. Ann Marie D’Angelo’s B.A.C. tested .15%.

Ann Marie D’Angelo did complain of back pain from the second collision. She was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital.
