Jasper Police Department Announces Two Promotions

JASPER (From Sources) – The Jasper Police Department has announced two recent promotions from within the department ranks, both effective this month.

Sgt. Jeremy Lee has been promoted to detective sergeant as the result of the retirement of Det. Sgt. Rick Chambers. Patrol Officer First Class Aaron Persohn has been promoted to sergeant to replace Officer Lee.

Both promotions involved intensive interviews by Chief of Police Michael Bennett, Assistant Chief Nathan Schmitt, Cale Knies, the director of personnel/safety/loss control for the City of Jasper, and the Board of Public Works & Safety, which serves as the oversight board for the Jasper Police Department.

Jeremy Lee started his career with the Jasper Policed Department as a communications officer in 1991 and was hired as a police officer in 1993. Since then, Officer Lee has been involved in the department and the community. In 2012, He was promoted to sergeant to lead a team of nine officers. His professional and community involvement has included:

  • Promoted to Sergeant in 2012 (Over 22 years on the Jasper Police Department.)
  • Secretary on the Jasper Police Department Pension Board
  • JPD Training Coordinator
  • Certified Field Training Officer (FTO) –
  • Was a member of the Emergency Response Team for seven years
  • Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Certified Instructor
    • Certifications to teach Domestic Violence, Critical Incident Management, Active Shooter Response, and Emergency Vehicle Operations
    • Guest instructor at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy as well as the Southwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy
  • Certified School Resource Officer
  • Indiana Department of Education Certification – Advanced School Safety Specialist

Aaron Persohn started his career with the Jasper Police Department as a communications officer in 2004. He was hired as a Jasper Police Officer in 2005.  As a first-classpolice officer, he has been  involved in the department, the schools and community. His professional and community involvement has included:

  • Field Training Officer (FTO)
  • Firearms Instructor

  • Emergency Response Team Member since 2007
