KENTUCKY MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG-RELATED CHARGES EARLY MONDAY MORNING

Ferdinand (NNDC) – A Kentucky man was arrested early Monday morning on drug possession charges.

Ferdinand police say the arrested 24-year old Joshua Ditto of Cloversport, KY at about 4AM. FPD says an officer saw a suspicious looking piece of cardboard laying behind a vehicle that was parked in an area behind the American Legion Hall along Indiana 162.

While investigating the cardboard, the officer says he heard a noise coming from inside the car. FPD says the item found behind the car was a pack of rolling papers. The officer says he then found Ditto behind the steering while inside the car surrounded by smoke.

FPD says a strong odor emitted from the car when the officer had Ditto roll down a window.

The officer says he saw a pipe inside the car along with a quart jar that contained marijuana.

Ditto is charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia.

JASPER MAN ARRESTED FOR “HUFFING” AT CITY PARK

Jasper (NNDC) – A tip from the public led to the arrest of a Jasper man for allegedly inhaling duster in the shelter house at Bohnert Park on Jasper’s far southeast side.

Officers on the scene say they found 20-year old Carlos Hernandez inhaling vapors from a compressed air can after they arrived on scene at about 4PM Sunday afternoon.

JPD says Hernandez attempted to flee when officers initially attempted to take him into custody but were quickly able to retain him though officers says Hernandez continued to passively resist arrest.

JPD says three bystanders who at the park did help police restrain Hernandez.

Hernandez was initially taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for treatment of abrasions to his face and elbows. He was also medically cleared at the hospital for inhaling the vapors.

He is charged with illegal inhaling of vapors and resisting arrest.

NO ONE SERIOUSLY HURT IN JASPER ACCIDENT SUNDAY

Jasper (NNDC) – No one was seriously hurt in a two-vehicle accident Sunday evening in Jasper.

Jasper police at shortly after 9PM, a pickup truck driven by 72-year old Chester Davis of Paoli disregarded a stop light at the intersection of Indiana 56 and St. Charles Street on the city’s west side and collided with an SUV driven by Keith Hedinger of Jasper.

Hedinger complained of shoulder pain but refused medical treatment at the scene. Davis was cited by police for running a stop light.

DRIVERS ESCAPE INJURY IN SUNDAY AFTERNOON ACCIDENT

Jasper (NNDC) – Neither driver was injured in a two-vehicle accident early Sunday afternoon on Jasper’s far northside.

Jasper police say at about 12:30PM, a van driven by 70-year old Diana Voeklel of Dubois was coming out of the Home Depot store parking log failed to yield the right of way and pulled into the path of a car that was northbound on Newton Street and the two vehicles collided.

Voelkel was cited by police.

JASPER MAN ARRESTED FOR DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Jasper (NNDC) – A local man was arrested late Saturday night following what police say was a domestic dispute at a southside apartment.

Police arrested 38-year old Jonathon Holt who lives at Sunset Apartments in the 600 block of Giesler Road at about 11:30PM Saturday.

He’s charged with disorderly conduct.

LOCAL WOMAN ARRESTED ON O.W.I. CHARGES

Jasper (NNDC) – A rural Jasper woman was arrested after police stopped her car for speeding early Saturday evening.

JPD say 61-year old Debra Hensley was pulled over by officers near 36th and Mill streets at about 7:25PM after her vehicle was clocked going 42 miles-an-hour in a 25 MPH zone.

Upon further investigation, officers determined Hensley was intoxicated. A chemical test done later at Memorial Hospital determined her blood alcohol content was .16%.

Hensley is charged with Operating While Intoxicated at OWI Endangerment (for speeding).

FERDINAND MAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING LICENSE PLATE; POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA

Ferdinand (NNDC) – 18-year old Cody DeWayne Miller of Ferdinand was arrested Saturday afternoon.

Miller was stopped by an FPD officer at about 3:50PM for a traffic stop. Upon investigation, it was discovered by Ferdinand police that the license plate on the vehicle Miller was driving had been reported stolen earlier on Saturday by Miller’s roommate at the apartment the two shared at Country Acres in the 200 block of Lee Court.

FPD says Miller’s license plate was on a vehicle in a French Lick impound lot where police say Miller was arrested Friday night.

FPD says says when Miller was stopped by police Saturday afternoon, he was found with marijuana in his possession.

He’s charged with Theft and Possession of Marijuana.

DRIVERS ESCAPE INJURY IN TWO-VEHICLE CRASH SATURDAY AFTERNOON

Celestine (NNDC) – Neither driver was injured in an accident in Celestine Saturday afternoon.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says at 2:10PM, a SUV driven by 39-year old Jennifer Bieker of Celestine was eastbound on Indiana 164 and when Bieker attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Celestine Road North.

DCSD says Bieker failed to yield to a westbound car and the two vehicles collided. The driver of the car was 63-year old David Qualkinbush of French Lick.

DCSD says Qualkinbush attempted to brake and avoid the collision, but could not do so.

BICYCLIST INJURED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY VEHICLE

Ireland (NNDC) – An bicyclist from Otwell was injured after he and his bike was struck by a car Saturday afternoon.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 58-year old Ronald Watson was riding his bicycle east on West 150 North near North 500 West shortly before 3:00PM.

DCSD says a car driven by 18-year old Noah Cox of Ireland was also eastbound on 150 North when he passed the bicycle. Cox told DCSD he then turned into a private drive but turned into the bike’s path and the bicycle collided into the car knocking Watson to the ground.

Watson was transported to Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
