Boys Basketball Sectional Pairing Announced

Indianapolis (NNDC) – The pairings for the 106th IHSAA Boys Basketball Tournament were announced Sunday.

Sectional games are scheduled to begin Tuesday, March 1, and run through Saturday, March 5, with the regional round slated for March 12 and semistates on March 19.

The four state championship games that make up the state finals will be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 26.

Locally, in Class 3A, Southridge hosts the local sectional which no longer includes Mitchell nor Heritage Hills. Mitchell has moved to Class 2A and Princeton replaces Heritage Hills. Princeton comes over from the 3A Sectional at Boonville and the Patriots move to Boonville.

Jasper (14-6)  opens with Washington (17-4) Tuesday (March 1) at 8PM. Southridge (8-12) gets a first-round bye and will play Friday evening (March 4) at 6:30PM against either Princeton (2-19) or Pike Central (17-4).

The Hatchets won the regular season matchup with conference foe Jasper 66-64 in a game played January 15th at Jasper.

A year ago, Jasper lost in the semifinals to eventual sectional champ Vincennes Lincoln 69-54.    Southridge also lost in the semis to Washington 49-43.

In the local 2A Sectional hosted by Forest Park, but t0 be played at Jasper, the Rangers (15-5) get a first-round bye and will play the winner of Perry Central & Tell City at 6:30PM Friday (March 4).

Last year, the 2A Sectional was played at Huntingburg’s Memorial Gym where the Rangers lost in the championship game to Evansville Mater Dei, 69-64.

The local 1A Sectional will once again be played at Tecumseh High School in Lynnville.

The Jeeps of Northeast Dubois (9-12) will open the tournament Tuesday night (March 1) against Wood Memorial (16-7).  Wood Memorial won the regular season game between the Blue Chip Conference foes, 47-40, back on January 30th.

Last year, the Jeeps lost to Wood Memorial (69-59) in a first-round game.   The Trojans are the defending sectional champions.

New Albany is the top‐ranked team in both the Associated Press Class 4A poll and the single class poll from the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. The Bulldogs will begin their quest for a third consecutive sectional championship after earning a first round bye. They’ll await the Seymour‐New Albany winner in Sectional 15 at Seymour.

Class 3A’s No. 1 team Griffith, last year’s state runner‐up, will host Hammond Clark in Sectional 17.

In Class 2A, top‐ranked Lapel will play host to Muncie Burris in the six‐team Sectional 42 opener.

Liberty Christian, the No. 1 team in the Class A poll, will begin its charge toward a fifth consecutive sectional title when it meets tournament newcomer Anderson Preparatory Academy in Sectional 55 at Wes‐Del.

Among last year’s state champions, three will play up in class after winning their respective tournament in 2015. Guerin Catholic, last year’s Class 3A champ now playing in 4A, drew a bye and will meet the Westfield‐Fishers winner in Sectional 8 at Noblesville.

Park Tudor, the winner of the last two Class 2A state tournaments and now in Class 3A, will face off against Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter in Sectional 28 at Beech Grove.

Barr‐Reeve, which celebrated the school’s first state title a year ago, will try its hand in Class 2A and awaits the South Knox‐North Knox winner in Sectional 47 at North Knox.

Homestead, last year’s Class 4A state champ, drew home‐standing Huntington North in Sectional 6.

Lafayette Central Catholic (Class A) leads the state with 14 consecutive sectional championships. Andrean (Class 3A) follows with six in a row and Pike (Class 4A) is next with five straight.
