Rev. Kenneth L. Graehler, 78, Washington

FrReverend Kenneth L. Graehler, 78, of Washington, a native of Jasper and a priest of the Evansville diocese since 1963, died Friday evening at Brookside Village in Jasper. He was born in Jasper September 20, 1937, to Albert H. Graehler and Lorena (Schuetter) Graehler.

Father Graehler graduated from St. Joseph’s Grade School in Jasper and the St. Meinrad Seminary. He also studied in Innsbruck, Austria and was ordained a priest at Holy Trinity Church in Innsbruck on March 30, 1963.

He served as pastor and assistant pastor at a number of parishes in the Evansville diocese, including service as co-pastor at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand from 1977 to 1980. He also served as a teacher at Memorial and Rex Mundi high schools and St. Theresa Grade School in Evansville. He retired in November of 2002.

He is survived by hisĀ  only sister, Carol (Graehler) Hufnagel and husband Walter, Paris, Texas; one sister-in-law, Edna Graehler, Louisville, Kentucky; 12 nieces and nephews; 44 great-nieces and nephews; and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Al, Richard Lee, and stillborn twins.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11. Father Graehler has donated his body to science at the Indiana University Medical School. His cremains will be buried at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
