HUNTINGBURG (From Sources) – Erica Schmidt is the new executive director of the Huntingburg Event and Community Center. Schmidt has been in training for the position since October. She came to the center with over five years of non-profit management experience, including community outreach and fund development. She begins begins her position immediately.

“On behalf of the board of directors of the Huntingburg Event Center, I am delighted to welcome Erica as the new executive director,” said Board President Allison Menke. “Her wealth of experience and demonstrated leadership will help the Event Center move forward in its mission to enhance economic growth, quality of life, and serve as a safe haven in times of emergency.”

Prior to coming to the Huntingburg Schmidt oversaw Washington County SOAR! Adult & Family Literacy, which provides free one-on-one tutoring to adults and families in Washington County. She was a literacy specialist and grant writer for Scott County Economic Development. Her community involvement has included Washington County Prevent Child Abuse, Substance Abuse Council, Women’s Giving Circle, Service Providers, Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Alzheimer’s Association team captain, Washington County Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Springs Valley Pet Services.

Schmidt studied political science at New England College, has a Masters of Public Administration from Norwich University, and is a member of Phi Alpha Alpha honor society. She resides in Huntingburg with her husband, Harry Day.

The new director says she welcomes the community to stop in and say hello and she looks forward to working with the community and enhancing the Huntingburg Event Center. “One of the reasons I went into non-profit management was the people,” she says, “I love working with and meeting new people who are passionately dedicated to their community.”
