EVANSVILLE (NNDC) – Southridge High School senior Mitch Mundy is the only local wrestler to advance to this Saturday’s IHSAA State Finals finishing fourth overall in the semistate round held this past Saturday at the Ford Center in Evansville.

Mundy, who wrestles in the 160 pound weight division, won his first two matches of the tournament. He defeated Arkee Glover of Brownsburg (Dec. 5-0) in the first round and then pinned (3:33) Colton Price of Pike Central in round two.

Mundy, who is wrestling with an injured right shoulder, then lost in round three to Clayton Whitaker of Martinsville by technical fall (0-15). Whitaker is ranked #5 in the state at 160.

Mundy, who was limited to wrestling just one regular season meet (he injured the shoulder during football this past fall), lost in the consolation finals to Gleason Mappes of Center Grove by fall (4:15).

Mundy was one of seven local wrestlers to take part in the semistate round. None of the other six advanced past the first round.

The top four finishers in each weight division at the semistate advance to the IHSAA State Finals to be held Friday and Saturday at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
