Crash Of Unoccupied Truck Causes $10,000 In Damages

JASPER (NNDC) – Jasper City Police report an unoccupied Sterling dump truck rolled through a gravel lot around 11:30 this morning, causing an estimated $10,000 in damages before coming to a stop.

The driver of the vehicle told police he set the parking brake before going into Dubois County Block and Brick. While he was inside the vehicle suddenly rolled down the gravel lot, struck a telephone pole and gas meter and then plowed into the building at 2218 Newton Street before coming to a stop.

Damage to the truck, owned by Ewing Properties,was estimated at only $1,000, but the combined damage to the telephone pole, gas meter, building, and truck was estimated at $10,000.

No charges were filed and there were no injuries.
