Vernon “Cookie” Kimmel, 86, Petersburg

Vernon KimmelVernon “Cookie” Kimmel, 86, of Petersburg, died Saturday (February 6) at the Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg. He was born in Evansville June 16, 1929, to George and Beulah (Simpson) Kimmel. He married Gloria Phelps June 5, 1958, in Evansville.

Cookie served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as an ambulance driver. He retired from Styline where he worked as a furniture craftsman. He was a carpenter and enjoyed building different projects around the house.

He is survived by three sons, Frank Kimmel and wife Judy, Huntingburg, George Kimmel and wife Dorothy, Dubois, and David Kimmel and wife Joyce, Holland; one daughter, Mary Boehman and husband Gerald, Jasper; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. (EST) Monday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in HuntingbCurg. Condolences may be shared with the family online at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery. Rev.Albert Madden will officiate. Military graveside rites conducted by the Jasper American Legion memorial detail.
