Joseph A. Sermersheim, 76, Ireland

Joe SermersheimJoseph A. Sermersheim, 76, of Ireland, died Wednesday at his home. He was born in Jasper October 28, 1939, to Herbert and Eleanor (Bockelman)bSermersheim. He married Evelyn Mehringer September 10, 1959, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Joseph attend Jasper High School and served in the U.S. Army Military Police Division. He retired from J.H. Rudolph Company where he worked as a job foreman for many years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland and the Jasper Moose Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Sermersheim; three daughters, Gerri Buchta and husband Randy M., Joni Dillon and husband Pat, and Carma Neukam and husband Kevin R., all of Ireland; two sons, Kent Sermersheim and wife Linda, Jasper, and Kevin Sermersheim, Ireland; nine grandchildren; and three sisters, Virginia Mundy and Jane Bell, both of Jasper, and Carol Akles and husband Bill, Oakland City.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Sermersheim, and one sister, Lavern Fleck.

Friends may call from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church Building Fund or to the Lange Fuhs Cancer Center in Jasper. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
