Catherine E. “Betts” Terwiske, 85, Ireland

Betts TerwiskeCatherine E. “Betts” Terwiske, 85, of Ireland, died Friday (January 29) at her home. She was born in Ireland February 3, 1930, to Robert and Anna (Weidenbenner) Steinhart. She married Robert Terwiske, Sr. January 10, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. He died September 11, 1985.

Betts was a graduate of Ireland High School and a cook at Jasper High School. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the St. Ann’s Society and volunteered for many organizations. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by four daughters, Rebecca Matheis and husband Alan and Regina Scherle and husband Mike, all of Ireland, Marcia Johanningsmeier, Haubstadt, and Angela Hochgesang and husband Bill, Celestine; 10 sons, Stan Terwiske and wife Julie, Oakland City, Roland Terwiske and wife Kathleen, Huntingburg, Dave Terwiske and wife Cindy, Haysville, Paul Terwiske, Jasper, Joel Terwiske, Velpen, and Bruce Terwiske and wife Kay, Jeremy Terwiske and wife Kathleen, Robert Terwiske, Jr., Jason Terwiske and wife Ann, and George Terwiske and wife Kristy, all of Ireland; 31 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister, Lucille Wehr, Ireland; and two brothers, Donnie Steinhart and wife Marilyn, Jasper, and Ronald Steinhart and wife Evelyn, Dale.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, John Terwiske, twin great-grandchildren, and one son-in-law, Bill Johanningsmeier.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. The St. Ann’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Church building fund or to a favorite charity. Online Condolences may be made at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
