Leon Roach, 85, French Lick

Leon Roach, 85, of French Lick, died Friday (January 22) at Brookside Village in Jasper. He was born in Martin County April 11th, 1930, to Napoleon “Poe” and Mary (Qualkenbush) Roach. He married Anita Baker January 28th, 1950.

Leon was a 1949 graduate of Shoals High School, a member of the Cane Creek Christian Church, and was owner/operator of Roach’s General Store in Hillham for over 33 years. He was a school bus driver for over 33 years and enjoyed farming. He served in the United States Army as a technical sergeant with the 2nd Division during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Roach; four sons, Dr. Dan Roach and wife Kay, Washington, Tom Roach and wife Valerie, Jasper, Jerry Roach and wife Tina, Orleans, and Jody Roach, French Lick; one daughter, Susan Shipman and husband Joe, French Lick; one brother, Lloyd Earl Roach, French Lick; and five grandchildren, Kelsey, Brock, Lauren, Braxton, and Allison Roach.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brother, Ralph, Harold, Howard, Leo, and Dale Roach, and four sisters, Edith Westerlund, Velma Quinn, Violet Moore, and Mabel Daughtery.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Brosmer-Kemple Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Cane Creek Christian Church or the church’s cemetery fund, 4932 South County Road 1175 West, French Lick, Indiana 47432. Condolences may be made at www.brosmerkemplefuneralhome.com. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cane Creek Christian Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Wayne Neeley will conduct the services.
